A recall announced by the U.S. Department of Agricultureโs Food Safety and Inspection Service covers approximately 1,584,361 pounds of Kayem ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that may have experienced temperature abuse during storage. The products were shipped to retail and food-service locations across the United States and to Hong Kong.
FSIS classified the recall as Class I, its highest-risk category. The recall applies to identified products, not every item sold under the Kayem name. Consumers and food-service operators should check product labels and UPCs against the product information linked from the agencyโs notice.
How the temperature issue was identified
FSIS said a retail customer reported warm product temperatures at delivery on October 1, 2026. Kayem investigated and found temperature deviations in a warehouse cooler, according to the agency. The recall was announced on October 17.
Kayemโs October 16 announcement attributed the issue to a cooling-system malfunction at one of its warehouses. The company described the affected products as those stored and shipped between June 7 and October 14. FSIS gives a separate approximate production period: March 31 through October 7, 2026. The dates describe production and storage or shipping, respectively, and do not replace the product-specific label and UPC checks.
FSIS lists three establishment numbers associated with recalled products: EST. M/P 7839, EST. P 20935A and EST. M 9520. The agencyโs notice also links to product-label and UPC lists. Checking those identifiers can help consumers and food-service operators determine whether a particular item is included; the brand name alone is not enough to establish that a product is affected.
What consumers should do
FSIS advises consumers not to eat affected products. Anyone with a matching item should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. The advice applies to products that match the recall information, rather than all Kayem products.
FSIS defines a Class I recall as a health-hazard situation in which โthere is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.โ That classification describes the agencyโs risk assessment; it does not itself establish that contamination occurred. In its October 17 notice, FSIS reported no confirmed illnesses associated with the products.
Kayem lists its customer-service number as 800-426-6100. FSIS lists the Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854. The agency says it routinely checks whether customers have been notified and recalled products are no longer available to consumers. It also said retail distribution lists would be posted when available.
