Target recalls 211,000 children’s sandals over choking hazard

Target recalled about 211,000 pairs of Cat & Jack children’s sandals after decorative plastic pearls detached from the footwear, creating a potential choking hazard, according to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission notice issued July 16, 2026.

Target received 23 reports of pearls falling off the sandals. No injuries had been reported. Consumers should stop using the recalled footwear immediately, keep it away from children and contact Target for a full refund.

What sandals are included

The recalled sandals are tan and have two raffia straps, gold buckles and decorative plastic pearls. They were sold under Target’s Cat & Jack brand in children’s sizes 5T through 12T. The brand is printed on the sole and bottom of the sandals.

The sandals were sold at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com from January through May 2026 for about $20.

Parents and caregivers should check children’s footwear purchased during that period, especially tan sandals matching the description. A detached pearl could be swallowed by a young child, which is why the CPSC identified a choking hazard.

How to get a refund

Target is offering a full refund. Consumers may return the sandals to any Target store or use a prepaid label to send them back by mail.

Until they are returned, keep the sandals away from children and do not allow a child to wear them.
