Republican Rep. Ken Calvert led fellow Republican Rep. Young Kim by 12,606 votes in California's 40th Congressional District on Thursday, according to Decision Desk HQ's unofficial returns. Calvert had 81,470 votes, or 54.19%, to Kim's 68,864, or 45.81%, with 55% of the expected vote reported. The race remained uncalled.
The two Republican incumbents are competing for the same seat following California's redistricting. The contest spans parts of Orange and Riverside counties. Remaining ballots will determine which candidate wins; a victory by either would keep the district represented by a Republican.
