Tennessee early voting ended Saturday. Here’s what voters need before Aug. 6

Tennessee’s early-voting period for the Aug. 6, 2026, election ended Saturday, Aug. 1. Voters who did not cast a ballot during early voting must use the regular Election Day process on Thursday, Aug. 6.

The election includes state and federal primary contests and county general elections. Some jurisdictions may also have municipal contests. The races on a voter’s ballot depend on the voter’s county, district and, where applicable, municipality.

Check your registration, polling place and ballot

Before Election Day, voters should use the Tennessee Secretary of State’s GoVoteTN voter lookup to review their voter-specific information, including a sample ballot, polling location, elected officials and districts.

GoVoteTN says its data comes from local county election commissions. If the record appears incomplete or incorrect, voters should contact their county election commission before going to the polls.

A polling place used during early voting may not be the location assigned for Election Day. Voters should confirm the Election Day location and any county-specific voting information rather than rely on a previous early-voting site.

Review the contests that apply to you

Ballot contents can vary by county, district and municipality. Voters should review their sample ballot to see which state or federal primary, county general-election and possible municipal contests apply to their address.

Voters should not assume that every race listed on a sample ballot from another county will appear on their ballot. County election commissions and GoVoteTN are the best sources for the final voter-specific details.

Bring acceptable photo identification

Tennessee voters casting ballots in person must present an acceptable federal or Tennessee government-issued photo ID containing the voter’s name and photograph, unless a legal exemption applies.
