D.C. launches five-site cool-pavement pilot to reduce urban heat
The District Department of Transportation has begun applying solar-reflective pavement coatings at five Washington sites designated as urban heat islands. American University will measure conditions before and after installation, with a comparative report planned by the end of 2026.
