Sound Transit’s Light Rail Service to Begin on March 28, 2026
Sound Transit’s long-anticipated light rail connection between Seattle and Bellevue is scheduled to launch on March 28, 2026. This service, known as Line 2, will connect Bellevue with Seattle’s Chinatown-International District, facilitating travel across Lake Washington and allowing seamless transit from Redmond to Lynnwood. Originally approved by voters in 2008 as part of the East Link project, the service was initially expected to begin as early as 2020. Trains will operate approximately every eight minutes during peak hours and every 10 to 15 minutes at other times. Sound Transit CEO Dow Constantine highlighted the significance of the extension as a major achievement in regional transit history. Further expansions to West Seattle, Ballard, Tacoma, and Everett remain underway.
