Bradenton, FL — January 30, 2026 — Manatee County commissioners have unanimously voted to re-engage with the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corporation (EDC), four months after ending their previous contract. The decision aims to explore renewed economic development partnerships and address concerns over return on investment and transparency. The EDC has recently appointed an interim CEO and is actively seeking a permanent leader. Commissioners emphasized the need for measurable outcomes and clarified that the vote was to initiate discussions, not to finalize a new contract. A new agreement is expected to be presented in March.

Background

In September 2025, the EDC’s partnership with the county expired after commissioners voted not to renew the nonprofit’s nearly $336,900 contract. Concerns at that time included return on investment and transparency. Since then, the EDC has undergone leadership changes, including the retirement of its former CEO and the appointment of an interim CEO. The organization is also in the process of hiring a permanent CEO.
