Fatal Crash on US-131
On Thursday night, a tragic accident occurred on southbound US-131 near the 28th Street exit in Wyoming. A 30-year-old man lost control of his Chevrolet Equinox, veered off the road, and struck a utility pole. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and speed may have been a contributing factor. A witness reported the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
Injury Collision on Clyde Park Ave SW
Earlier this week, emergency responders were called to the 2400 block of Clyde Park Ave SW in Wyoming for a traffic collision resulting in injuries. Public Safety Millage Renewal
In related news, the City of Wyoming is seeking voter approval to renew the dedicated public safety millage. This annual levy of 1.25 mills funds the operation, maintenance, and administration of police and fire services. For a homeowner with a $100,000 house, the cost will remain at $62.50 per year. The renewal is scheduled for August 7, 2026. This millage was first passed by voters in 2010 to address declining state funding and other financial challenges. While home values have increased, the city’s revenue status remains largely the same, making the renewal crucial for maintaining essential public safety services.
City Leadership Update
Additionally, Chief Kip Snyder was sworn in as the new Chief for the Wyoming Department of Public Safety on January 8, 2026. In his role, Snyder will lead a team of nearly 167 full-time sworn and civilian personnel from both the police and fire departments. His leadership is expected to guide the department through ongoing challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of the Wyoming community.
