Wyoming roadwork update: Burton, Prairie Parkway and 52nd Street
Several active construction areas will change how drivers move through Wyoming this week, according to the City of Wyomingโs construction bulletin for the week of July 27, 2026. The work includes watermain replacement, pavement reconstruction, lane shifts and a temporary 52nd Street closure near Grandview Elementary.
Burton Street traffic will be westbound only in one section
On Burton Street between Burlingame Avenue and Kamp Avenue, contractors are beginning pavement removal in preparation for watermain replacement. Local traffic will be maintained in the westbound direction only in that section.
Farther east, between Kamp Avenue and Clyde Park Avenue, crews are continuing curb, gutter and gravel grading. The city says base-course paving is planned by the end of the week.
The larger Burton Street project runs from Burlingame Avenue to Clyde Park Avenue and includes a new watermain, a three-lane road design and a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side. Through traffic will be restricted during construction, while property access is expected to remain available, sometimes from only one direction.
Prairie Parkway traffic is shifting onto new pavement
On Prairie Parkway, traffic is shifting onto the newly paved north half of the road, with westbound-only travel planned in the active work area.
Crews are continuing concrete path and curb-and-gutter work on the south side. The city plans to begin watermain replacement between Wentworth Drive and Byron Center Avenue during the week of August 3. That work is planned and was not yet underway in the July 27 bulletin.
The Prairie Parkway project includes a new watermain, a three-lane road design and a shared-use path intended to connect Kent Trails with the City Center pedestrian bridge. Traffic controls may change as work moves between project phases.
Lane restrictions continue at 56th Street and Byron Center Road
The northbound left lane on Byron Center Road will remain closed for several weeks. Utility and concrete work on the north side of 56th Street will also require a lane shift, and the eastbound-to-northbound left-turn lane will be closed.
This is a separate work area from the Burton Street and Prairie Parkway reconstruction projects. Drivers approaching the intersection should follow posted lane markings and plan for the restricted turn movement.
52nd Street closure begins near Grandview Elementary
Utility work near 3738 52nd Street, across from Grandview Elementary, began Monday, July 27. The city expects that section of 52nd Street to be closed for approximately two weeks.
Through traffic is being detoured to 56th Street via Wilson and Ivanrest. Local access varies by neighborhood and by the approach used to reach the school and nearby residential areas, so drivers should follow posted signs and local traffic controls.
The cityโs broader 2026 construction program includes Burton Street and Prairie Parkway reconstruction, the Byron Center dual-left-turn project, watermain work and nonmotorized improvements. Construction schedules and traffic controls can change as work progresses. Residents and commuters should check the cityโs weekly construction update before traveling through the affected areas.
