Greenwood Daily Briefing: February 7, 2026
Greenwood, SC — February 7, 2026 — Business expansions, court activity and community events keep Greenwood moving on a chilly early February weekend.
Saturday in Greenwood: Business growth, courthouse sales and a busy weekend
Greenwood residents are closing out the first full week of February with a mix of economic news, courthouse activity and community events across town.
Business & jobs
VELUX Greenwood is planning a $26 million expansion of its skylight manufacturing operations in Greenwood County, a project expected to roll out in phases over the next several years.
Local officials say the expansion at the Old Brickyard Road facility should boost production capacity and help the company keep pace with growing demand for residential and commercial daylighting products. The investment is also being framed as a vote of confidence in Greenwood’s manufacturing workforce and business climate.
Another major employer, Lonza, has announced plans to put more than $53 million into its Greenwood site, with the project expected to add 30 jobs over the next five years. The company’s Emerald Road operation produces capsule and health-ingredient products used by pharmaceutical and nutrition brands around the world.
Courts & property
Earlier this week, a slate of properties went up for auction on the courthouse steps during Greenwood County’s regular foreclosure sale. The sales, held at the Monument Street courthouse, drew investors and property owners watching to see which homes and parcels would change hands.
While the detailed sale list is primarily aimed at attorneys and bidders, it also offers a snapshot of local real estate stress points, from past-due mortgages to long-running legal disputes. County officials encourage residents to review public notices if they believe a property connected to them could be affected.
Around town today
On the brighter side of the weekend, runners bundled up early this morning for the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce’s “Run Your Ice Off” 5K and 8K races, which started just after sunrise. The annual event brings families, serious runners and plenty of volunteers together to kick off the year’s race calendar in Uptown.
Friday and Saturday also featured a full slate of social events, from live music on Maxwell Avenue to a pancake supper benefiting a children’s charity and a heart-health program geared toward local seniors. Taken together, the concerts, fundraisers and educational programs show how community groups, businesses and health providers are working side by side to keep Greenwood active and connected as 2026 gets underway.
