Downtown businesses leaned into the Valentine theme today with the sold out Cookie Walk, sending ticket holders on a sweet stroll through shops and eateries. Participants collected treats at each stop and helped support efforts to keep the downtown district vibrant.

Organizers say interest was strong again this year, a sign that residents and visitors are eager for simple winter events that bring people together between major storms.

Community: Breakfast at Thornton and new Saco Museum exhibit

This morning’s community breakfast at Thornton Academy brought families, alumni, and neighbors into the dining hall for pancakes and coffee, with proceeds benefiting the school’s student assistance fund. It was a warm, low key way to support local students as midwinter sets in.

Across town, the Saco Museum opened a new all ages exhibition, Cultivating Creativity, featuring work by art educators from across Maine. The show runs into late March and offers a colorful antidote to February’s gray days.

The Dyer Library is also keeping cabin fever at bay with an ongoing plant swap in the children’s room throughout February, giving families a chance to trade cuttings and dream about spring.
