Furnace malfunction blamed in Rockwood Road house fire

Fire officials have released more details about last weekend’s house fire on Rockwood Road in the Cabarrus Woods neighborhood. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and quickly traced flames to a wall and the attic space above. The fire was contained in under 20 minutes but still damaged a large portion of the single-story home. Two residents were displaced, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. Investigators say a malfunctioning furnace in the attic sparked the blaze.
