Here is a quick look at what is happening around Harrisburg as the week wraps up.
Trash and recycling on a one-day delay
After the winter storm earlier in the week, the townโs solid waste provider is running a day behind on all residential trash, recycling, and bulk pickup. Wednesday routes are being collected on Thursday, Thursday routes on Friday, and Friday customers are set for Saturday service. Town staff are asking residents to leave carts at the curb until crews make it through each neighborhood, and to give trucks extra room on narrow, slushy streets.๎cite๎turn9search0๎turn9search6๎
Storm cleanup and park operations
Town officials say road conditions have improved since the heavy snow, but they continue to urge caution on shaded and secondary streets where ice can linger. Harrisburg Park has reopened with normal hours, while other parks are being checked for slick spots and downed limbs. Earlier in the week, youth basketball games and practices, along with tennis classes, were canceled as a safety precaution, and the Harrisburg YMCA operated on a delayed schedule while parking areas were cleared. Residents are reminded that any changes to parks and recreation programs, or to garbage and recycling service, will be posted on the town website and social channels during future weather events.๎cite๎turn9search1๎turn9search10๎
Furnace malfunction blamed in Rockwood Road house fire
Fire officials have released more details about last weekendโs house fire on Rockwood Road in the Cabarrus Woods neighborhood. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and quickly traced flames to a wall and the attic space above. The fire was contained in under 20 minutes but still damaged a large portion of the single-story home. Two residents were displaced, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. Investigators say a malfunctioning furnace in the attic sparked the blaze. Dozens of firefighters from Harrisburg, Concord, and Charlotte assisted at the scene, and the American Red Cross is helping the affected family with temporary needs.๎cite๎turn8view0๎turn7view0๎
