1) Fresno Unified advances layoffs tied to budget gap

Fresno Unified’s board voted to move forward with a reduction-in-force process that could cut more than 200 positions across the district. Union leaders and employees packed the meeting to argue the district has options besides job losses, while officials said the vote is a procedural step toward notices and decisions later this spring.

2) West-central Fresno stabbing leaves one man dead; suspect sought

Police say a 41-year-old man died after a Tuesday afternoon stabbing near Hedges and Wheeler avenues. Investigators described the suspect as the victim’s roommate and said the attack followed an argument that moved from a home into the street. Authorities warned the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous as they continued searching.

3) Arrest made in attempted-murder case tied to December disturbance

Fresno police arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a Dec. 27, 2025 disturbance near Maroa and Shields. Investigators said the victim suffered severe head trauma and facial lacerations and was treated for brain bleeds. Police said a juvenile suspect was also arrested earlier in the case.
