Scottsdale Daily Local Headlines: Trafficking-sting arrests, arts agreement reset, Din Tai Fung reservations
Scottsdale, AZ – February 27, 2026 – Police report 173 arrests in a trafficking sting; City Council resets arts funding; Din Tai Fung bookings open.
Public safety: 173 arrests in trafficking operation
Scottsdale police reported 173 arrests tied to a three-week operation that ran from Jan. 21 to Feb. 14. Investigators said the effort targeted sex buyers, child predators, and people involved in illegal sex work, and that decoys were used so no children were placed in danger.
Police said the arrests included a range of charges, from attempted crimes involving minors to prostitution-related offenses and other allegations uncovered during the operation. Authorities also said multiple potential trafficking victims were located and offered services.
City Hall: Arts partnership gets a clearer roadmap
City Council approved a new three-year agreement with Scottsdale Arts to continue management of arts programming, public art, and major cultural events. The agreement runs July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029, with two one-year extension options, and the city approved $6,297,114 in funding for fiscal year 2026/27.
The city said the updated structure follows a 2024 audit that recommended clearer expectations and stronger financial reporting. The agreement outlines a planned step-down in the city’s General Fund contribution over time while still allowing annual council votes on funding.
Fire department: New assistant chiefs named
Scottsdale Fire announced leadership appointments that add three assistant fire chiefs alongside a current assistant chief. City officials framed the change as strengthening operational readiness and long-range planning as Scottsdale grows and hosts major events.
Dining: Din Tai Fung details for Scottsdale Fashion Square
Din Tai Fung confirmed an April 20, 2026 grand opening at Scottsdale Fashion Square. The company also outlined a reservation-only soft opening from March 12 through April 19, with reservations posted online starting Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. Mountain Time. After the grand opening, walk-ins are expected to be available, along with takeout and delivery.
