Fort Wayne, IN – March 3, 2026 – Council previews road, utility and zoning items, plus neighborhood grant updates and fresh local sports news.
City Hall: What’s on the agenda
Fort Wayne City Council is holding a committee-only session today, March 3, where members will debate several public works, utilities, and zoning items before any final votes are scheduled later.
Items highlighted for discussion include a construction contract tied to traffic-signal improvements at Reed Road and Vance Avenue, plus a City Utilities change order connected to adding carbon dioxide system storage capacity. Several zoning requests are also up for review, including rezonings meant to align properties with current use and one proposal that would allow a childcare center on Illinois Road.
Neighborhoods: 2026 Engagement Grants ramp up
The city has posted details for its 2026 Neighborhood Engagement Grant program, which helps neighborhood associations fund events and programs designed to build stronger connections.
Workshops are scheduled for March 14 and March 16, with online applications set to open April 6 at 8 a.m. The deadline to apply is May 8 at 5 p.m., with award announcements expected in early June and projects due by Dec. 31, 2026.
Business: TinCaps and PNC small-business recognition returns
A local small-business spotlight will continue this season through the TinCaps’ ‘Going To Bat for Small Business’ program. Organizers say two businesses will be selected for recognition, with hospitality and marketing support valued at more than $10,000 each.
Nominations opened March 2 and run through April 24, with entries accepted from Allen County and surrounding counties.
Outdoors: ACRES marks 66 years of conservation
A northeast Indiana land trust is marking its 66th year, tracing its start to a small group of residents who pooled modest donations to protect local natural areas.
Today, the organization says it protects more than 8,000 acres across dozens of counties in northeast Indiana, southern Michigan, and northern Ohio, and it continues to lean on volunteers for stewardship and education work.
Scoreboard: Komets stay hot
The Komets report they have gone 8-1-1 over their last 10 games and remain in a tight Central Division race as the schedule turns toward mostly divisional matchups down the stretch.
