Heightened patrols across the region
Police agencies across the DC region say residents will notice extra patrols and visibility around sensitive locations in the coming days. Officials emphasized there is no known or credible threat to the area right now, but they are coordinating with local, state, and federal partners as a precaution.
Transit riders may also see more officers at and around Metrorail stations as part of the stepped-up posture.
Snow operations ramp up; street sweeping pauses
District public works officials activated a full snow deployment ahead of a forecasted round of snow and wintry mix expected to push into the region late Monday and into Tuesday morning. Crews planned to pretreat major roadways and focus on bridges, ramps, and other elevated structures where slick spots form first.
City leaders also paused the return of signed street sweeping during snow operations. For commuters, the biggest impacts were expected around the Tuesday morning drive, especially if temperatures dipped enough for a brief glaze on untreated surfaces.
RFK redevelopment: DC opens the door to small-business contracts
The District is inviting small and local businesses to compete for contracting opportunities tied to the RFK Stadium site redevelopment, as early work and demolition move forward. City leaders have highlighted a commitment for a significant share of project spending to go to DC-based companies.
The redevelopment is framed as a long-term, multi-part buildout, with city and team officials pointing to a target of having a new stadium complex ready for the 2030 NFL season.
Protest activity near the White House after overseas strikes
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered near the White House area over the weekend to protest the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. Marches and speeches drew a mix of local advocates and visitors, and police maintained a visible presence as groups moved through downtown streets.
Officials urged drivers and pedestrians to expect occasional short-term closures when large crowds gather near major federal sites.
