Crash after a Chandler traffic stop ends fatally in Mesa
Investigators say a suspected impaired driver sped off from a Chandler police traffic stop early Sunday, reaching triple-digit speeds before a fiery crash near Country Club and Baseline in Mesa. The driver died at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
Local officials are again urging drivers to plan a safe ride home and to pull over if an officer initiates a stop. Even a short decision to flee can turn into a multi-city emergency within minutes.

For Our City Day returns March 21, with volunteers needed in Tradition East
The city is recruiting volunteers for its annual For Our City Day, focused this year on the Tradition East neighborhood near Chandler Boulevard and McQueen Road. The morning includes exterior home and yard improvement projects, followed by a community walk and a celebration with a free lunch at Pima Park.
Residents are also encouraged to share acts of kindness throughout the day and to nominate military and first responder honorees tied to the event.
Public Safety Fair planned March 7 at the Chandler Police Main Station
If you have kids who love big trucks (or adults who do), the city is hosting its annual Public Safety Fair this Saturday morning. Expect station tours, a lineup of police and fire vehicles, and live demonstrations including a simulated collision scene, vehicle extrication, and Hands-Only CPR instruction.
The police side is set to include specialty demonstrations such as K-9, SWAT, and the tactical robot team. Organizers say child fingerprinting and other kid-friendly activities will also be available.

One of Chandler’s biggest annual draws is now firmly on the March calendar. The Ostrich Festival is scheduled across two weekends in mid-to-late March at Rawhide Western Town and Event Center, with concerts, carnival rides, food, and the signature ostrich-themed attractions.
