Scottsdale Daily Local Headlines: Heat rescues, Fashion Square towers, and film festival plans
Heat safety: rescues up in early March warmth
Scottsdale is feeling an early burst of heat, and local crews say the change is showing up in more heat-exhaustion calls at spring training crowds and on popular trails. Fire officials say visitors arriving from colder climates are especially at risk because the sun and dry air can hit harder than expected.
If you are spending time outside, the simple moves still matter most: start earlier in the day, drink water steadily (not just when you feel thirsty), take shade breaks, and turn back the moment you feel dizzy, nauseated, or unusually weak. If symptoms escalate or sweating stops, treat it as an emergency.
Development watch: towers rising near Fashion Square
A long-fenced corner along Scottsdale Road near Scottsdale Fashion Square is active again, with crews building a two-tower apartment project known as Hazel and Azure. Plans described in city filings call for roughly 532 homes and about 14,600 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, a mix that could add new residents and new storefront energy to the area.
In the near term, neighbors should expect the usual construction rhythm: equipment, intermittent lane or driveway slowdowns, and heavier work traffic at peak hours.
On the calendar: Phoenix Film Festival at Scottsdale 101
Movie fans can also mark their calendars for the Phoenix Film Festival, scheduled for April 9–19 at Harkins Scottsdale 101. Organizers say tickets go on sale Friday, March 6, with everything from single-show tickets to full festival passes, plus add-on events like workshops and community programs.
