Fontana approves 265-unit Maple and Foothill project near SR-210
Fontana approved a 265-unit multifamily project at Maple and Foothill on May 19, with CEQA paperwork posted May 22 and nearby elementary schools listed.
Fontana has approved a 265-unit multifamily project at the northwest corner of Maple Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, adding another large housing site in the city’s Arboretum area. The Notice of Determination says the city approved the project on May 19 and posted the CEQA filing on May 22.
The plan calls for six buildings on about 8.1 acres, along with a condominium map, a request to reduce the landscape setback along Barbee Street from 5 feet to 2 feet, and associated site improvements. City hearing materials say the project also includes parking, drive aisles, landscaping, utilities and resident access from Maple Avenue, plus a secondary gated driveway on Foothill Boulevard for right-out movements and service access.
Why neighbors are watching it
The site sits in the Arboretum Specific Plan area, which the city describes as a northern Fontana growth district with regional access from Interstates 10 and 15 and State Route 210. The CEQA record also lists Maple Elementary, Palmetto Elementary and Juniper Elementary nearby, which helps explain why traffic, neighborhood change and school-area congestion are the biggest questions for nearby residents.
The documents reviewed here do not give a construction start date. For now, the main takeaway is simple: Fontana has cleared a new 265-unit housing project in the Arboretum area near a highway corridor and nearby schools.
