Austin commuters face nightly I-35 northbound mainlane closures July 10–25
Austin, TX commuters: TxDOT will close I-35 northbound mainlanes (Slaughter Ln to SH 71/Ben White) nightly July 10–11 and 17–18, plus July 24–25 if needed.
TxDOT says drivers heading north on I-35 in South Austin should expect overnight mainlane closures between Slaughter Lane and SH 71/Ben White Boulevard for work tied to the I-35 Capital Express South elevated managed-lanes project.
Closures are scheduled for Friday/Saturday nights July 10–11 and July 17–18, with another overnight July 24–25 listed as if needed. TxDOT’s posted “latest update” date on the project page is June 25, 2026.
What’s closing (and where)
TxDOT says the northbound I-35 mainlanes will close nightly in the Slaughter Lane to SH 71/Ben White Boulevard area. TxDOT also says the northbound flyover to SH 71 will be closed.
When the closures happen
TxDOT lists the closures nightly from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. on:
- Friday/Saturday, July 10–11
- Friday/Saturday, July 17–18
- Friday/Saturday, July 24–25 (if needed)
Northbound detour guidance
TxDOT provides these northbound routing directions during the overnight closure window:
- Northbound I-35 detour: Use the William Cannon Drive exit (228), continue past Stassney Lane, then merge back onto northbound I-35.
- SH 71/Ben White Boulevard detour (eastbound or westbound): Use exit 228, continue along the northbound I-35 frontage road, then turn at Ben White Boulevard.
TxDOT advises drivers to remain alert, follow posted signs, and expect delays during the overnight work periods.
