Detpak plans first U.S. plant in Spartanburg with 50-plus jobs

Detpak USA plans to begin operating its first U.S. manufacturing facility at 2781 New Cut Road in Spartanburg in August 2026, adding a new packaging operation and more than 50 announced jobs to the local industrial base.

The company plans to use an existing industrial building of approximately 175,000 square feet to produce packaging for quick-service restaurants, food-service providers, consumer-goods companies and retailers. Detpak USA is part of Australia-based Detmold Group.

Jobs and investment figures differ by source

The South Carolina Governor’s Office announced on July 16 that the project represents a multimillion-dollar investment and is expected to create more than 50 initial jobs. A Spartanburg County Project Arbor fee-in-lieu-of-tax record lists 45 projected jobs and $12.22 million in projected investment for the facility.

Those figures are not necessarily contradictory. The state announcement describes the company’s public job commitment, while the county record documents the figures associated with the project’s tax and economic-development structure. Both are projections, not proof that all jobs have been filled or that the full investment has already been spent.

What the tax record shows

The county agenda record documents a fee-in-lieu-of-tax structure tied to the Detpak project. In plain terms, that type of arrangement can establish how qualifying project property is assessed and how payments are calculated over the agreement period. The record should not be read as evidence that all expected tax benefits, payments or local revenue have already been realized.

State officials also announced grant support for Spartanburg County to help with building-improvement costs. The project is planned for an existing industrial site rather than a new building-construction project.

The August 2026 operating target is a planned milestone. As of July 29, it does not by itself confirm that production has started. The next useful developments will be an official operating update, job postings and hiring information, and any additional county or state filings tied to the facility.
