Metro Detroit gas eases as diesel rises; Livonia pumps vary
Metro Detroit regular gas eased slightly on AAA’s July 29 check, while diesel rose. Livonia station listings were below the regional averages but varied by location.
Regular gasoline in Metro Detroit edged lower on the latest AAA Michigan check, but diesel continued moving higher. The figures, dated July 29, 2026, are regional averages rather than citywide Livonia prices.
Regular gas dipped from the previous day
AAA listed the Metro Detroit average for regular gasoline at $4.202 per gallon on July 29. That was down from $4.209 the previous day, a decrease of 0.7 cents, but still up from $4.152 one week earlier. The weekly comparison represents an increase of about 5 cents per gallon.
For a driver filling a 15-gallon tank, the difference between the latest regional average and the week-ago figure works out to roughly 75 cents per fill-up. Actual costs in Livonia can be higher or lower depending on the station, payment method, timing and other conditions.
Diesel moved higher again
Diesel showed the stronger upward movement. AAA reported a Metro Detroit average of $5.386 per gallon, compared with $5.356 the previous day and $5.200 one week earlier. That means diesel rose 3 cents overnight and 18.6 cents from the prior week.
The difference matters most for people who drive diesel-powered vehicles or operate work trucks, delivery routes and fuel-intensive equipment. Higher diesel costs can also affect contractors, service businesses, restaurants making supply runs and companies that move goods through the region, although the effect will vary by vehicle, route and fuel-purchasing practices.
Livonia station prices were below the regional benchmarks
Station-level listings showed a different picture in Livonia. The 7-Eleven at 37416 7 Mile Road listed regular gasoline at $2.989 per gallon and diesel at $3.899. The station page said those prices had been updated within 24 hours.
A separate listing for Costco at 13700 Middlebelt Road showed regular gasoline at $3.979 per gallon. That listing is community-updated and warns that prices may vary, so it should be treated as a station-level comparison rather than an official citywide average.
The gap between the AAA regional figures and individual station listings is a reminder that averages and pump prices answer different questions. AAA’s number helps track the broader Metro Detroit trend, while a station listing reflects one location at a particular time. Membership requirements, payment methods, timing and updates between checks can all affect what a driver actually pays.
For Livonia commuters and households, the latest trend is mixed: regular gas was slightly lower than the previous day but higher than a week earlier, while diesel continued to climb on both comparisons. Share the highest and lowest pump prices you are seeing around Livonia.
