Surprise-Area Gas and Diesel Prices Rise Thursday
Surprise-area regular gas and diesel prices rose Thursday in the Phoenix-Mesa metro, while a Bell Road station listed lower regular gas.
Both regular gas and diesel prices moved higher in the latest AAA Phoenix-Mesa price check on Thursday, July 30, giving Surprise-area drivers a new regional benchmark for commuting, errands and summer travel.
AAA listed the Phoenix-Mesa metro average at $4.462 per gallon for regular gas, up 3.2 cents from Wednesdayโs $4.430. Diesel reached $5.544 per gallon, a 6.2-cent increase from Wednesdayโs $5.482.
Regular gas remains above recent benchmarks
The regular-gas increase added to a broader rise from earlier comparison points. AAAโs Thursday figure was 15.1 cents higher than the metro average one week earlier, 56.4 cents above the month-ago average and $1.174 above the year-ago comparison.
Those figures describe the Phoenix-Mesa metro, which serves as the regional benchmark for the Surprise area. They are not a citywide average for Surprise, and prices can vary from one station to another.
Diesel posted the larger daily increase
Diesel rose more sharply than regular gas from Wednesday, increasing 6.2 cents in one day. AAAโs current diesel average was 23.1 cents above the week-ago figure, 62.5 cents above the month-ago comparison and $1.895 higher than the year-ago level.
The larger diesel movement matters for contractors, delivery operators, landscapers, service companies and other businesses that rely on diesel. If elevated prices persist, fuel can remain a significant operating expense that businesses may need to account for in delivery charges, service pricing and household budgets. The available price data does not identify a specific cause for Thursdayโs increase.
A Surprise station check shows why comparison matters
A Samโs Club listing for the station at 16573 W Bell Road in Surprise showed $4.30 for regular gas and $5.49 for diesel during the latest check. The regular price was below the Phoenix-Mesa metro average, while the diesel price was close to the regional figure.
That station-level listing should not be treated as representative of every pump in Surprise. Posted prices can differ based on location, timing, competition and membership requirements. Drivers should confirm the price at the pump and check whether a listed price requires membership before comparing it with a metro average.
For commuters, households, weekend travelers, restaurants and local service businesses, the main takeaway is that both fuel categories moved higher in the newest regional update, with diesel showing the larger one-day increase.
