Surprise Fuel Prices Saturday: Phoenix-Mesa Gas Hits $4.50
Phoenix-Mesaโs regular-gas average reached $4.500 Saturday and diesel $5.629, while two Surprise stations showed a 25.9-cent regular-gas gap.
Fuel prices moved higher again Saturday, August 1, as the Phoenix-Mesa metro average for regular gasoline reached $4.500 per gallon and the diesel average climbed to $5.629.
AAAโs August 1 price check shows regular gasoline up 0.5 cents from the previous dayโs $4.495 average. Diesel rose 3.3 cents from $5.596, making the diesel increase larger than the move for regular gasoline.
Both metro averages remain above last week
Compared with AAAโs previous-week figures, regular gasoline is up from $4.421 per gallon, while diesel has risen from $5.461. That puts the Phoenix-Mesa metro averages 7.9 cents higher for regular gas and 16.8 cents higher for diesel than a week earlier.
AAAโs figures apply to the Phoenix-Mesa metro area rather than Surprise alone. They show the broader trend affecting local drivers, but they should not be read as a standalone city average for Surprise.
Two West Bell Road stations show different pump prices
Current station listings show why comparing prices can matter. Samโs Club at 16573 W. Bell Road listed regular gasoline at $4.30 per gallon and diesel at $5.49. The 7-Eleven at 13130 W. Bell Road listed regular gasoline at $4.559 and diesel at $5.699.
The listed regular-gas prices differ by 25.9 cents per gallon. On a 15-gallon fill-up, that difference would amount to about $3.89 before membership discounts, loyalty savings or payment-related differences. The diesel listings differed by 20.9 cents per gallon, or about $4.18 on a 20-gallon fill-up.
These two stations are not a complete survey of Surprise prices, and posted prices can change during the day. Still, the comparison gives commuters, contractors, delivery operators and service businesses a reason to check prices before filling up, especially when vehicles use larger tanks or make repeated daily trips.
Why the diesel increase matters
Diesel affects more than individual pickups and work trucks. Delivery fleets, landscapers, construction contractors and other mobile businesses may face higher operating costs when diesel rises. Those costs can affect trip planning and business margins, although the available price data does not document specific local responses.
For households, the practical difference will depend on vehicle size, weekly mileage and planned driving. Weekend travelers and residents making longer trips may want to compare nearby stations rather than assume prices are uniform across Surprise.
