Mondovi can comment on proposed US 10 reconstruction through Aug. 29
WisDOT is taking comments through Aug. 29 on a proposed US 10 reconstruction in Mondovi that could affect traffic, sidewalks, utilities and businesses.
Mondovi residents and businesses can comment through Aug. 29, 2026, on a proposed reconstruction of US 10 through the city after the Wisconsin Department of Transportation held a public involvement meeting July 29.
The project remains in design. Construction is currently scheduled for 2030 and 2031, but WisDOT says the schedule and other details may change as design work continues and public input is reviewed.
What WisDOT is proposing
The project would cover US 10 from County A to 1,580 feet east of WIS 37 North in Mondovi, in Buffalo County. WisDOT says the pavement on that segment is nearing the end of its service life.
Proposed work includes replacing the asphalt with eight inches of concrete pavement, replacing approach slabs and pavement markings at the Peeso Creek Bridge, and replacing storm sewer systems. The plan also calls for new sidewalks, reconstructed noncompliant sidewalk curb ramps, replacement of curb and gutter, and replacement of street lighting.
Existing sanitary and water utilities would also be replaced. WisDOT says that utility work would be performed by the City of Mondovi.
Closures and detours are part of the design
During construction, US 10 would be closed to through traffic. WisDOT is dividing the proposed work into stages because the detours could be lengthy. The agency is also considering an additional local-traffic detour using adjacent city streets.
The proposed work could affect drivers who use US 10 to reach homes, businesses, schools, services and nearby highways. Construction could also change pedestrian access along the corridor and create temporary access challenges for businesses and property owners.
The detour arrangements are not final. WisDOT is still developing the project, and proposed routes and construction details could change after comments are reviewed.
How the schedule currently stands
WisDOT currently lists Stage 1 for 2030 and Stages 2A and 2B for 2031. Those are scheduled dates, not a guarantee that construction will occur exactly as planned. WisDOTโs Northwest Region project list identifies the US 10 work as a project in design scheduled for construction and notes that construction dates may change based on available funding and other factors.
How to comment
Residents, businesses, property owners, pedestrians and regular US 10 users can review the project information and submit comments through Aug. 29, 2026. The comment period is an opportunity to raise concerns about access, sidewalks, utilities, detours and how the work could affect the Mondovi corridor.
For now, the project is a proposal rather than active construction. WisDOT and the city will continue refining the design before the planned 2030-31 work.
