Vancouver Gas Dips to $5.02 While Diesel Edges Higher
Vancouver metro regular gas slipped to $5.015 while diesel rose to $5.944 in AAA’s July 31 check, with both prices above last week and last year.
Regular gasoline and diesel moved in opposite directions in Vancouver’s latest AAA price check. The Vancouver metro average for regular gas fell about 1 cent from the previous day to $5.015 per gallon on July 31, while diesel edged up 0.3 cents to $5.944.
The separate movements matter for local drivers and businesses because gasoline and diesel serve different parts of the economy. Commuters and households saw a small day-to-day decline at the regular pump, while delivery fleets, contractors, landscapers, freight operators and other diesel-dependent businesses faced another increase.
Regular gas is lower than Thursday but higher than last week
AAA listed Vancouver-area regular gasoline at $5.015 on July 31, down from $5.025 on July 30. The metro average was $4.958 a week earlier, putting the latest price 5.7 cents higher than the prior week.
The current average was also 0.8 cents below the $5.023 monthly comparison. Compared with a year ago, regular gas was 66.8 cents higher. AAA listed the year-ago Vancouver average at $4.347 per gallon.
Diesel continues to run higher
Diesel moved the other way. AAA’s July 31 Vancouver average was $5.944 per gallon, up from $5.941 the previous day and $5.825 a week earlier. That represents an increase of 11.9 cents from the prior week.
Diesel was also 9.5 cents above the $5.849 monthly comparison and 96.8 cents higher than a year ago. AAA listed the year-ago Vancouver diesel average at $4.976 per gallon.
The weekly diesel increase is more directly important to commercial operators than to most private motorists. Higher diesel costs can add pressure to delivery routes, construction work, agricultural operations, landscaping, waste collection and service businesses that use work trucks or equipment. Those costs may eventually become part of pricing decisions, although the current figures do not document specific local business responses.
Station prices can differ from the metro average
A station-level listing illustrates why shoppers may see prices that do not match the metro number. The Costco station at 6720 NE 84th Street was listed at $4.599 for regular gasoline and $5.699 for diesel on July 31. That is one location, not a citywide or metro average, and pump prices can change during the day.
For commuters, weekend travelers and families, even small daily changes can add up across repeated fill-ups. For restaurants, delivery businesses, contractors and other service operators, diesel’s larger weekly increase deserves closer attention because fuel costs are tied directly to mileage, equipment use and delivery work.
