Concord-Area Gas Eases, While Oakland-Metro Diesel Rises

Regular gasoline and diesel moved in opposite directions in the latest AAA California fuel-price check, giving Concord-area drivers a mixed update at the pump. Regular gas edged lower from the previous day, while diesel rose both day over day and week over week.

Regular gasoline dips for the day

AAA listed the Oakland metro average for regular gasoline at $5.647 per gallon on August 1, 2026. That was down 0.7 cents from the previous day’s $5.654 average, but 1.4 cents higher than the $5.633 average recorded one week earlier.

The numbers point to a small one-day easing rather than a weekly retreat. The Oakland benchmark was also above its month-ago average of $5.478 and year-ago average of $4.560, according to AAA’s published comparison windows.

Diesel moves higher

Diesel followed a different path. The Oakland metro average reached $6.868 per gallon, up 1.2 cents from the previous day and 6 cents from a week earlier.

Diesel was also above its month-ago average of $6.547 and year-ago average of $5.311. That can matter beyond motorists who drive diesel-powered vehicles because delivery fleets, contractors, landscapers, service companies and other businesses may rely on trucks, vans or equipment.
