Orange County Gas and Diesel Prices Rise as August Begins
AAA’s Aug. 1 Orange County averages reached $5.667 for regular gas and $7.008 for diesel, giving Garden Grove drivers a higher regional benchmark.
Regular gasoline and diesel prices both moved higher in the latest AAA Orange County price check, giving Garden Grove drivers and local businesses a more expensive start to August.
Regular gasoline averaged $5.667 per gallon in Orange County on Aug. 1, according to AAA. That was up 0.3 cents from the previous day and 4.4 cents from a week earlier. It also rose from the July 31 check, when regular gas averaged $5.664 per gallon.
Diesel moved higher, too
Diesel averaged $7.008 per gallon in Orange County on Aug. 1. The average increased 1.5 cents from the previous day and 6.9 cents from a week earlier. It was also higher than the July 31 average of $6.993 per gallon.
The separate movements matter for people and businesses that use different types of vehicles. Delivery drivers, contractors, landscapers, repair companies, restaurants receiving supplies and other operators using diesel vehicles may face greater fuel-cost exposure while the county average remains above $7 per gallon.
What the numbers mean for Garden Grove
AAA’s figures are Orange County averages, not a citywide average for every station in Garden Grove. They provide a regional benchmark for commuters, households and businesses, but the price at a particular station can be higher or lower depending on the station, fuel brand, local competition and timing of the latest price change.
Earlier reporting by the Orange County Tribune documented differences among individual stations in Garden Grove and nearby West Orange County communities. Those March prices are not a current Aug. 1 survey, but they illustrate why drivers should compare local pumps rather than assume every station matches the county average.
For commuters, even small per-gallon changes can add up over repeated trips, especially for drivers with long routes or larger vehicles. For small businesses, fuel costs can affect delivery runs, service calls, supply trips and other high-mileage work.
AAA listed the Aug. 1 California average at $5.652 for regular gasoline and $6.919 for diesel. The Orange County averages were therefore slightly higher than the statewide figures. The U.S. Energy Information Administration released its latest weekly gasoline and diesel update on July 28, so it provides broader dated context but does not replace AAA’s newer daily Orange County snapshot.
Drivers can limit the impact by comparing nearby stations before filling up, checking whether loyalty discounts apply and combining errands when possible.
