Dallas Gas Prices Ease Again as Diesel Holds Above $5

Dallas-area regular gasoline prices fell again Saturday, while diesel remained above $5 per gallon and continued to run higher than it did a week ago.

AAA’s Dallas metro average for regular gasoline was $3.568 per gallon on Aug. 1, down 2.4 cents from the previous day and 16.5 cents from a week earlier. Diesel averaged $5.112 per gallon, down 2.1 cents from Friday but up 14.1 cents from last Saturday.

Regular gas is lower than yesterday and last week

The latest AAA comparison gives gasoline commuters some relief at the pump. Dallas regular gas was 30.1 cents higher than its month-ago average of $3.267 and 71.1 cents above its year-ago average of $2.857.

The week-to-week decline is the clearest improvement for drivers using regular gasoline. A commuter who fills a typical 15-gallon tank would pay about $2.48 less today than at the Dallas average a week ago, before accounting for station-to-station differences.

Diesel has eased, but remains above $5

Diesel moved lower from Friday, but the broader comparison is different. The Dallas average was $4.971 a week ago, meaning Saturday’s price is 14.1 cents higher. Diesel also stood 80.8 cents above its month-ago average of $4.304 and $1.737 above its year-ago average of $3.375.

For diesel-dependent operators, the $5 threshold remains significant even after the one-day decline. Contractors, delivery fleets, restaurants receiving regular shipments, landscapers, repair companies and other service businesses may continue to face higher fuel costs than they did last week or last year. Those are practical cost implications of the price data, not documented reactions from specific Dallas businesses.

Dallas prices in broader context

The Energy Information Administration’s July 28 fuel update listed Texas regular gasoline at $3.644 per gallon for July 27, while U.S. on-highway diesel was $5.313 per gallon that day. The EIA figures provide dated state and national context, but they are not substitutes for AAA’s current Dallas metro averages.

AAA’s Dallas figures show why local drivers should treat gasoline and diesel as separate trends. Regular gas is lower both day over day and week over week. Diesel is lower than yesterday but higher than last week, month and year.

Compare before filling up

Metro averages can hide sizable differences between stations, neighborhoods and major roads. Drivers may save by checking several nearby pumps before filling a tank, especially when they are buying diesel in larger quantities.
