Fayetteville Gas Holds at $3.71 as Diesel Climbs to $5.35

Regular gasoline is holding near $3.71 per gallon in the Fayetteville metro, while diesel moved higher to $5.345 in AAA’s August 1, 2026, price check.

The separate movements matter for local drivers and businesses: gasoline changed very little from the previous day, but diesel rose nearly 4 cents overnight and remains substantially above its month- and year-ago levels.

Regular gas remains near $3.71

AAA lists the Fayetteville metro average for regular unleaded at $3.710 per gallon. That is up 0.2 cents from the previous day’s $3.708 average, but down 0.6 cents from a week ago.

The longer-term comparison is less favorable for household budgets. The current regular-gas average is 20 cents higher than the month-ago figure of $3.510 and 88.6 cents above the year-ago average of $2.824.

Compared with the previous check on July 31, regular gasoline is essentially unchanged. The earlier check listed the metro average at about $3.71 per gallon.

Diesel is the sharper mover

AAA’s Fayetteville metro diesel average is $5.345 per gallon, up from $5.306 the day before. That is a daily increase of 3.9 cents. Diesel is also up 8.1 cents from a week ago, when the average was $5.264.

The monthly and yearly gaps are larger. Diesel is 83.1 cents above the month-ago average of $4.514 and $1.833 higher than the year-ago average of $3.512. Compared with the July 31 update, diesel is about 3.5 cents higher.

What the prices could mean locally

Individual stations can charge more or less than a metro average, so drivers should compare pumps before filling up. The latest figures nevertheless point to different pressures for gasoline and diesel users.

For commuters and weekend travelers, regular gas near $3.71 can add to the cost of routine driving, especially for households with long commutes or multiple vehicles. Higher diesel costs may be more important for trucking, deliveries, contractors, agriculture, service calls and businesses that move goods or operate heavy equipment.

Those costs can eventually affect delivery charges, contractor estimates, restaurant supply runs and other operating expenses, although the current price data does not document specific local business reactions.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration‘s latest national data provides broader context, but it does not establish Fayetteville-specific prices. AAA’s metro average also is not the price at every station.
