I-215 Ramp Closures Near Taylorsville Add Airport and Redwood Road Detours

Three northbound I-215 ramps at the I-215/I-80 interchange closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, adding detours for Taylorsville airport travelers, commuters and drivers headed to Redwood Road.

The Utah Department of Transportation said the closures are part of the I-215 West Improved project and affect ramps from northbound I-215 to westbound I-80, eastbound I-80 and Redwood Road.

Airport travelers should use alternate routes

The northbound I-215 ramp to westbound I-80 is a primary route to Salt Lake City International Airport. Taylorsville residents and other travelers using that connection should plan an alternate route and allow additional time, depending on traffic and their starting point.

UDOT recommends Bangerter Highway, I-15 or SR-201 for airport trips while the ramp is closed. Drivers should check current traffic conditions before leaving because the best route may vary by destination and congestion.

The northbound I-215 ramps to westbound and eastbound I-80 are expected to remain closed for approximately 35 days and reopen shortly before Labor Day. UDOT says construction schedules are weather-dependent and may change.

Redwood Road closures have longer timelines

The northbound I-215 ramp to Redwood Road is scheduled to remain closed through Oct. 2, 2026. Drivers seeking Redwood Road from northbound I-215 will need to use another route under the announced plan.

A separate ramp from Redwood Road to northbound I-215 is expected to remain closed through July 2027. That closure affects drivers entering northbound I-215 from Redwood Road rather than drivers exiting the freeway toward Redwood Road.

For Taylorsville residents, the practical effect depends on the trip: airport travelers face a change to a major I-215-to-I-80 connection, while drivers using the Redwood Road interchange should expect different routes for separate movements through the interchange.

Bridge and pavement work continues through 2027

UDOT said the I-215 West Improved project includes repaving sections of I-215, replacing 18 bridge decks and repairing 12 additional bridges. The broader project is expected to be completed in late summer 2027.

The current ramp closures are construction changes, not permanent alterations to the interchange. Travelers should check UDOT traffic updates before airport trips, commutes and journeys involving Redwood Road because reopening dates and traffic patterns may change.
