Indian School Road Work Enters Crosswalk Phase Before August Utility Restrictions

Construction on Indian School Road in Scottsdale is in its first phase of ADA-ramp and crosswalk improvements, with utility adjustments and mill-and-overlay work scheduled to begin Aug. 9.

The project covers Indian School Road between Hayden Road and Scottsdale Road. Phase I is scheduled for July 26 through Aug. 13 and includes ADA-ramp work and crosswalk reconstruction at Buckboard Trail, Brown Road and Scottsdale Road.

What crews are doing now

The city says crews are constructing new ADA ramps and updating existing ramps in the project area. At Buckboard Trail, Brown Road and Scottsdale Road, crosswalks are being reconstructed, including removal of existing pavers and replacement with asphalt surfaces stamped in a red-brick pattern.

As of Monday, Aug. 3, Phase I remains active and is scheduled to continue through Aug. 13. Because the work is occurring in and around intersections, drivers should expect lane closures while crews are working.

Possible overnight intersection closures

Scottsdale says one travel lane in each direction will remain open when possible during Phase I. Some intersections may be closed overnight, so travelers should follow posted detours and allow extra time.

The city does not say that every intersection in the corridor will close overnight. Restrictions may change as crews move between work areas.

Utility and paving work starts Aug. 9

Phase II is scheduled for Aug. 9 through Aug. 27, overlapping the final days of Phase I. The phase includes adjustments to in-street utilities before and after project construction.

It also includes mill-and-overlay construction, which involves removing a layer of existing pavement and resurfacing the road with a new asphalt layer.

During utility-adjustment work, the city expects temporary lane restrictions on eastbound and westbound Indian School Road. During mill-and-overlay construction, one travel lane in each direction is expected to remain open.

Drivers, commuters and businesses along the corridor should watch for changing work-zone signs and allow extra time. Scottsdale’s traffic-restrictions page provides current information about roadway restrictions and detours.

Phase II is scheduled to continue through Aug. 27. Conditions may vary by work area, particularly during overnight operations, so travelers should check current restrictions before entering the Indian School Road corridor.
