Tyler Parkway closure moves into roundabout and pedestrian-crossing phase

Tyler Parkway is closed to traffic between Country West Road and Valley Drive while crews build two roundabouts and two raised median pedestrian crossings in Bismarck.

The closure began Monday, July 20, 2026. The City of Bismarck said the full closure was expected to last about six weeks, while a July 17 construction update described the detour as lasting approximately a month and a half. Those estimates are subject to construction conditions.

Through traffic must use the detour

Traffic cannot pass through the Tyler Parkway intersections at Valley Drive or Country West Road in any direction during the closure. The city says local access to properties adjacent to Tyler Parkway within the closed area will be maintained, but through movements are restricted.

The west-side detour uses Valley Drive, Del Rio Drive, Clairmont Road and Burnt Boat Drive. The east-side detour uses Valley Drive, Daytona Drive, Country West Road, Clydesdale Drive and Century Avenue. Drivers should follow posted signs and avoid the closed segment when traveling through the area.

Storm-sewer work continues

As of the city’s July 17 update, crews had installed more than 500 feet of concrete storm-sewer pipe and five concrete manholes. The planned project scope includes more than 5,000 feet of storm-sewer pipe and more than 60 manholes.

The city also warned that the construction site is off limits and that conditions and hazards will change as work progresses. Pedestrians should stay outside the work area and follow posted instructions.

Separate work is affecting Tyler Parkway over I-94

A separate North Dakota Department of Transportation project is affecting Tyler Parkway over Interstate 94. NDDOT said concrete repairs were expected to begin July 14 on the section between West Century Avenue and West Turnpike Avenue.

That work reduces traffic to one lane in each direction and includes a reduced speed limit and a 14-foot width restriction. NDDOT said drivers should expect delays through October, weather permitting.

What Bismarck drivers should expect

Drivers should avoid Tyler Parkway between Country West Road and Valley Drive and use the posted detour. People traveling to properties within the closed area should be able to maintain local access according to the city, though routes may change as construction advances.

Drivers should also allow extra time for the separate work over I-94. The approximately six-week city closure estimate is not a guaranteed completion date, and both projects may be affected by construction conditions or weather.
