Bellevue Transit Center bus reroutes move major routes to temporary stops
Bus riders using Bellevue Transit Center are being directed to temporary stops as construction reroutes Routes 271, 550, 556 and 566 through Friday, Aug. 28. Route 560 is on a separate reroute until further notice.
The changes began Monday, July 27, as crews started retrofitting the existing Bellevue Transit Center bus depot for Stride double-decker battery-electric buses. The broader construction project is expected to continue through February 2027.
What is changing
Sound Transit lists these affected Bellevue Transit Center boarding locations in the current multi-route alert:
- Bay 5, eastbound
- Bay 12, northbound
- Bay 9, westbound
- Bay 6
The alert says Routes 271, 550, 556 and 566 will be rerouted around the transit center from July 27 through Aug. 28. The alert is displayed as effective through Aug. 29. Those dates apply to the current service change, not the end of all construction at the transit center.
Where to board by destination
University District: Riders on Route 271 and Route 556 service toward the University District should use the temporary stop on NE 6th Street just east of 110th Avenue NE, westbound.
Eastgate Park-and-Ride: Route 271 riders should use Stop 73049 at NE 8th Street and 106th Avenue NE, eastbound, and the temporary stop on 110th Avenue NE just south of NE 6th Street, southbound.
Issaquah and Auburn: Route 556 service to Issaquah and Route 566 service to Auburn use the temporary stop on 110th Avenue NE just south of NE 6th Street, southbound.
Seattle: Route 550 riders traveling to Seattle can use the temporary stop on 110th Avenue NE just south of NE 6th Street, southbound, or Stop 85640 at NE 4th Street and 108th Avenue NE, westbound.
Bellevue: Route 550 riders traveling toward Bellevue should use Stop 68042 at NE 4th Street and 105th Avenue NE, eastbound, or the temporary stop on 110th Avenue NE just north of NE 6th Street, northbound.
West Seattle: Route 560 is using a temporary stop on 110th Avenue NE just south of NE 6th Street. The alert identifies Bellevue Transit Center Bay 6 outbound and Bay 7 inbound as affected locations. Sound Transit has not provided a firm end date for that reroute.
Why the work is happening
The project is retrofitting the current Bellevue Transit Center bus depot to accommodate future Stride double-decker battery-electric buses. Sound Transit says the work will take place in phases through February 2027, and the bus bays will remain operational during the construction.
Once the work is complete, Bellevue Transit Center is planned to serve as the meeting point for the future Stride S1 and S2 lines, connecting with local and regional transit services.
What riders should do
Several replacement stops are on or near 110th Avenue NE and NE 6th Street, so riders may need to leave the transit center and walk to a nearby street stop. Confirm the route number, direction and destination before boarding, and allow extra time for transfers, luggage, mobility devices or young children.
Sound Transit cautions that service alerts can change. Riders should check the agency’s current alerts shortly before departure and verify the stop for the specific trip.
