Pomona Police Round 6 Applications Remain Open Through Sept. 27
Pomonaโs sixth 2026 police officer recruit hiring round remains open, with applications accepted through Sept. 27 and the first scheduled career-wellness session taking place Aug. 5.
The Pomona Police Departmentโs Round 6 schedule also lists additional wellness sessions through Sept. 30, a Zoom mentorship session on Oct. 1 and a recruitment event on Oct. 7. The department notes that dates are subject to change.
Round 6 schedule
The application period runs from July 20 through Sept. 27, 2026. The scheduled career-wellness sessions are Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug. 19, Aug. 26, Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 23 and Sept. 30.
The mentorship session is scheduled for Oct. 1 by Zoom, followed by the recruitment event on Oct. 7. The department says its mentorship presentation is for applicants who reach the oral-interview stage. Participation in the wellness sessions, mentorship program or recruitment event does not guarantee advancement or employment.
Who can apply
Pomonaโs listed minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, an age of at least 20 1/2 years and a valid California Class C driverโs license with an acceptable driving record.
Applicants must also pass the cityโs pre-employment screening requirements and, if hired as a recruit, successfully complete a basic California POST police academy. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee placement on the eligibility list or selection for hire.
How the selection process works
The city lists four examination stages: review of the application and supplemental questionnaire, a physical agility examination, a written examination and an oral interview. The physical agility and written examinations are pass/fail. The oral interview produces the final percentage score.
Applicants who pass the required examination stages may be placed on an eligibility list valid for up to one year, but placement does not guarantee an interview or selection. The later process can include a background investigation, a conditional offer, psychological evaluation and medical examination.
Physical fitness requirements
Pomonaโs posted Police Officer Recruit physical fitness test lists 20 push-ups in 60 seconds or less, 25 sit-ups in 60 seconds or less, a 6-foot chain-link fence climb followed by a 25-yard run, a 6-foot solid-wall climb followed by a 25-yard run, a 165-pound body drag for 32 feet, a 99-yard obstacle course and a 500-yard run.
The department says all of those events are scored pass/fail. Candidates who advance to the written examination take the California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement examination, which measures writing and reading skills.
Pay and prior hiring context
A City of Pomona Police Officer Recruit bulletin lists compensation at $7,459 per month while the recruit attends a POST-certified police academy. The same bulletin lists Police Officer Step 1 pay at $8,614 per month after academy graduation, as a separate classification and pay level.
That employment bulletin advertised an earlier recruitment round that closed July 19, 2026. It referred to vacancies connected to recent and anticipated retirements during that prior round. The statement is historical context; it does not establish a current vacancy count or explain the reason for Round 6.
People interested in the Pomona Police Department should verify event times, locations, application instructions and schedule changes directly through the cityโs recruitment page and employment portal before applying or attending an event.
