Royal Oak ballot included public-safety and sanitation millages

Royal Oak voters faced two city millage proposals on the Aug. 4, 2026 primary ballot: one supporting police, fire and emergency medical services, and another renewing funding for sanitation services.

The public-safety proposal would authorize the city to levy up to 4.6 mills. Royal Oak estimated that a homeowner with a taxable value of $118,435 would see the annual public-safety millage cost rise from approximately $425 to approximately $544 if the full proposed rate applied.

That example represents an estimated increase of about $119 per year, or roughly $10 per month. The city’s figures are estimates tied to the maximum proposed authorization, not a statement of a final tax rate.

For the city’s example property, the current estimated annual cost was approximately $425. Under the proposed maximum, the estimated annual cost was approximately $544. The difference between those figures is the city’s approximately $119 annual estimate.
