Bernards Township extends Basking Ridge property-tax grace period to Aug. 24
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township has extended the grace period for third-quarter 2026 property-tax payments to Aug. 24, 2026, giving property owners additional time while paper tax bills are still being processed and mailed.
The township announced the update July 24. The extension means Basking Ridge property owners have more time to remit the third-quarter payment without the normal late-payment consequence associated with missing the grace period, according to the township’s tax notice.
Paper bills are still being mailed
Bernards Township said paper tax bills were being processed and would be mailed as soon as possible. The notice did not state why the mailing process was delayed.
Residents do not need to wait for a paper bill to make a payment. The township said the final 2026 property-tax bill and the preliminary 2027 property-tax bill can be viewed online, and its tax information provides online access and payment guidance.
That option gives homeowners who are ready to pay a way to review their bill and submit payment before receiving a mailed copy. The township’s notice does not establish whether the Aug. 24 deadline applies identically to every payment method or to every tax-account circumstance, so taxpayers with unusual account or payment questions may need to confirm the applicable rules with the Tax Collector.
Tax-rate components listed online
The Bernards Township tax information page lists several components of the tax-rate distribution. The listed county tax rate is $0.275, the county open-space tax rate is $0.030 and the district school tax rate is $1.077.
Those figures are components of the listed tax-rate distribution, not a complete statement of what an individual property owner owes. The township’s notice does not provide the complete municipal, county and school tax rate or the total bill impact for a typical property. It also does not indicate that all taxpayers owe the same amount.
For Basking Ridge homeowners, the immediate change is the new Aug. 24 grace-period deadline and the availability of online bill access while paper notices are delayed. The next known step is the township’s continued processing and mailing of the paper bills.
