Minnetonka says utilities were not affected by cyberattack
Minnetonka officials said the city’s utility services were not affected by a cyberattack reported July 28, 2026, while a Minnesota state cybersecurity team investigates the incident.
The city’s notice gives residents an operational assurance: the utilities continued without a reported disruption. It does not, however, provide a detailed account of what happened or identify the system involved.
What Minnetonka has confirmed

A separate item in the city’s August 2026 memo discussed Minnetonka’s Drones as First Responders program. The city said Minnetonka received a City of Excellence award for the program and reported results from its first year.
According to the city, drones arrived first in 67% of Drones as First Responders emergencies during that first year. The city also said aerial assessments resolved 18% of calls without deploying ground officers.
Those figures describe the city’s public-safety drone program, not the cybersecurity investigation. The award and first-year results do not provide additional information about the cyberattack or the condition of Minnetonka’s utility systems.
What remains unknown
For now, residents have a confirmed statement that utility service was not affected and that a state cybersecurity investigation was underway. The city has not supplied a public incident date, affected system, attacker, scope, data-access finding or investigation deadline.
A later update from Minnetonka or the state cybersecurity team would be needed to clarify those points. Until then, the city’s public position is that utilities were not impacted while the broader incident remains under investigation.
