Perry schools set 2026–27 schedule as elementary construction nears completion
Perry Community School District is preparing for the 2026–27 school year with revised Perry Elementary hours, a four-day preschool schedule and continuing construction work at the elementary school.
The district announced the changes July 1 as classroom casework began arriving and work continued on the preschool addition. The update also identified Tom Ryherd as the district’s superintendent and outlined several dates for families ahead of the new school year.
New elementary schedule
For 2026–27, breakfast at Perry Elementary will open at 7:45 a.m. The first bell will ring at 8:00 a.m., followed by the tardy bell at 8:05 a.m. Dismissal is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
The revised times give parents and students specific morning arrival and afternoon pickup times to plan around. The schedule applies to the 2026–27 school year; the district’s announcement did not describe it as a permanent change beyond that year.
Construction and classroom furnishings
Classroom casework was arriving at Perry Elementary, while flooring, ceiling-grid, electrical, technology and restroom work remained part of the planned construction activity.
The district said every preschool-through-fifth-grade classroom was scheduled to receive new furniture before the school year. In the preschool addition, exterior masonry was nearly complete and drywall installation was nearing completion.
Those updates describe construction progress and preparations for classroom use. They do not by themselves establish that every listed project item has been finished.
Preschool dates and weekly schedule
Preschool will operate Tuesday through Friday rather than Monday through Thursday. The district tied the change to monthly Monday professional-development days.
Teacher assignments were scheduled for release August 1, 2026. Perry Elementary’s open house was scheduled for August 24, 2026, and the first preschool day was scheduled for September 1, 2026.
These dates create the next preparation points for families: teacher information in early August, an opportunity to visit the elementary school later that month, and the preschool start in September.
District leadership and meetings
Tom Ryherd became superintendent after serving as superintendent of Cherokee Community School District from 2023 through 2026. The district included his leadership role in the same update that covered construction and school-opening plans.
The district’s official meeting schedule lists Board of Education and special board meetings for July 13, 2026. That date is a separate scheduled district-governance activity as Perry schools move toward the 2026–27 school year.
