Geneva schools announce athletic-facility groundbreaking
Geneva Area City Schools announced an athletic-facility groundbreaking for Oct. 7, 2026, saying it was breaking ground that day and scheduling a ceremony for 1:30 p.m. The district invited the public to watch a livestream and said it would share later construction progress on its GHS Media YouTube channel.
The project is on the Geneva High School campus. Board minutes headed Jan. 21, 2026, record approval to build an athletic facility there with a maximum cost of $5.75 million. That is an approved ceiling, not a reported final cost.
The minutes describe a revised project following the defeat of a bond issue in November, to be paid for with current district funds. A schedule presented to the board targeted substantial completion by August 2027. The districtโs October announcement did not give detailed facility plans, a funding breakdown or a completion date, so the January schedule and funding terms do not confirm current project terms.
