East Greenwich school construction moves into active 2026 building phase

East Greenwich’s approved school construction program has moved into an active 2026 building phase across East Greenwich High School, Frenchtown Elementary School and Hanaford Elementary School.

The project website posted a July 23, 2026 update labeled the fourth concrete pour, marking another visible construction milestone at the high school. The site identifies winter and spring 2026 as the start period for the high-school project.

High school work

The high-school project carries a target budget of $27 million. Its planned work includes new classrooms and Life Skills suites, along with mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades.

The scope also includes a visual-arts classroom suite and improvements to the auditorium. Athletic-related work is planned for the upper gym, locker rooms, team room and weight room.

Elementary school plans

A new Frenchtown Elementary School is planned adjacent to the existing facility for students in grades 1 through 5. The broader program also includes major work or construction activity connected to Hanaford Elementary School.

The changes will affect school facilities, grade configuration and campus operations for East Greenwich families. They also represent a significant public capital commitment as the town moves through construction and related planning decisions.

The Town of East Greenwich’s Current Applications page lists July 28, 2026 Zoning Board materials and an application dated Aug. 25, 2026, showing that municipal planning and zoning administration is continuing during the construction period.

The project website does not provide a revised completion date, a current construction percentage or specific details about how daily school schedules will change. The total cost for all three facilities is also not stated on the site.
