Willowbrook development proposals and possible $118 million school bond move toward August decisions
Willowbrook is moving toward two significant local decisions: the next stage of redevelopment planning for the North Plainfield site at 825 Midway Drive and a possible $118 million bond referendum for improvements at Willowbrook and Addison Trail high schools.
The village issued RFP 01-2026-VAO for the North Plainfield Development Opportunity. The deadline for proposals was July 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. The process is scheduled to continue with developer interviews in August.
North Plainfield redevelopment
The RFP schedules interviews with village staff and the Willowbrook Village Board during August 2026. It anticipates that the Village Board could approve a development in September or October.
The village has not announced a selected developer. The property therefore remains in the proposal and evaluation stage, with any future development subject to Village Board action.
The RFP sets a timetable for reviewing proposals at the 825 Midway Drive site, but it does not establish a final project. The development that ultimately advances will depend on the proposals received, the village’s evaluation and board approval.
District 88 considers school bond
Separately, DuPage High School District 88 is evaluating whether to seek a $118 million bond referendum on the November 2026 ballot. The proposed work would cover Willowbrook High School and Addison Trail High School.
District materials describe potential improvements involving safety and security, aging infrastructure, ADA accessibility and Career and Technical Education spaces. The district’s facility-needs summary identifies life-safety, infrastructure, accessibility and career-technical needs as areas the proposal would address.
The District 88 Board of Education is expected to decide in August whether to pursue the referendum. Until that decision is made, the bond remains a proposal under evaluation and is not an approved project or a guaranteed November ballot measure.
District 88’s materials do not state the final tax impact for property owners. If the board moves forward, voters would decide whether to authorize borrowing for the proposed high school improvements.
What comes next
August is the next key month for both matters. Willowbrook staff and the Village Board are scheduled to interview developers for the North Plainfield opportunity, while the District 88 board is expected to decide whether to pursue the proposed bond referendum.
The village’s anticipated approval window is September or October 2026. The school referendum, if authorized by the board, would be considered at the November 2026 election.
