Route 151 resurfacing in Haddam enters August work phase with weekday lane closures

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is moving into the resurfacing phase of a Route 151 project in Haddam and East Hampton, with weekday lane closures scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Aug. 3.

The project covers 5.96 miles of Route 151, starting at the East Haddam-Haddam town line and continuing through the Route 151 corridor to the end of Route 151 in East Hampton. CTDOT has anticipated resurfacing work from Aug. 3 through Aug. 21, 2026.

Motorists traveling through Haddam should plan for slower trips and changing traffic patterns during the workday. CTDOT says traffic-control personnel, crash attenuator vehicles and posted work-zone controls will be used while lane closures are in place.

Work schedule

The project’s milling phase was scheduled for July 14 through July 20. Milling removes the existing upper layer of pavement before the new roadway surface is applied.

Resurfacing is scheduled Monday through Friday, with crews working between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The weekday schedule means the most significant construction activity and lane restrictions are expected during daytime travel hours.

CTDOT has not announced a full road closure for the project. Drivers should follow posted work-zone directions and traffic personnel rather than assume that all parts of the corridor will be open in the same configuration each day.

Impact on local travel

Route 151 is an important connection for people traveling through Haddam and toward East Hampton. Lane closures can lengthen travel times and affect access for residents, commuters, school transportation and local businesses along the corridor.

Because the work extends across nearly six miles, conditions may vary from one portion of Route 151 to another. CTDOT’s advisory does not identify a single detour route or provide precise daily lane-closure locations, so drivers should allow extra time and watch for the posted controls as they approach the work area.

The project is part of CTDOT’s 2026 Vendor Resurfacing Program. Weather or other unforeseen conditions could modify the anticipated schedule, including the timing of work during the Aug. 3-21 resurfacing window.

For Haddam travelers, the immediate practical change is the start of daytime paving activity on Route 151 and the associated weekday lane closures. Drivers should expect work-zone operations during the scheduled hours until CTDOT’s resurfacing phase is finished or the department issues an updated notice.
