Dallas Budget Town Halls Set for Aug. 11-25 Amid Shortfall

Dallas will hold a series of town halls on the city’s proposed FY 2026-27 budget from Aug. 11 through Aug. 25, giving residents a formal opportunity to comment on how city tax dollars are spent.

The meetings are part of the City Manager’s Recommended Budget process. The final budget and any amendments had not been adopted when the town halls were announced, leaving the City Council’s later consideration as a key step in the process.

What the meetings are for

The City of Dallas invited residents to provide input and feedback on city spending during the town-hall series. The sessions are intended to bring public comments into the budget process before the council considers a final spending plan.

The Aug. 11 start date marks the first scheduled town-hall activity in the series. The city’s official 2026 calendar also lists an Aug. 11 budget workshop, along with additional budget-related activity later in the month.

For residents, the meetings offer a direct opportunity to raise questions or concerns about tax-supported services and spending priorities while the recommended budget is still under consideration. Shortfall adds financial context

The upcoming discussions come as Dallas addresses a financial shortfall in the current fiscal year. The city separately announced three furlough days as part of its response to that shortfall.

Those furlough days concern the current year and do not establish that the same measure will continue into FY 2026-27. The city’s announcement provides financial context for the next budget cycle, but the town-hall schedule itself does not make furloughs a future-year budget decision.

The distinction matters because the town halls concern the City Manager’s Recommended Budget for FY 2026-27, while the furlough announcement addresses an existing current-year gap. The two developments show that Dallas is preparing its next spending plan while also managing an unresolved financial pressure in the current year.

More budget activity is scheduled

The city calendar lists additional budget workshops and public hearings later in August, as well as consideration of amendments through Aug. 26. That schedule indicates that the budget process will continue after the town-hall period ends on Aug. 25.

Residents who want to follow the process should distinguish between the recommended budget, public feedback, amendments and the final action by the City Council. The town halls are part of that sequence, not the final approval.

As of the announcement, Dallas had not adopted the final budget or any amendments. The full dollar total of the recommended budget was also not identified in the town-hall announcement.
