Jonesburg’s Route E/Route Y interchange opens to traffic ahead of schedule

Jonesburg’s Route E/Route Y interchange over Interstate 70 opened to traffic July 17, giving commuters, freight carriers, emergency responders and local businesses access to the rebuilt crossing ahead of the expected schedule for most of the improvements.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says the project replaces the Routes E and Y bridge and upgrades the interchange to accommodate the proposed three-lane template for I-70.

A wider bridge over I-70

The replacement bridge is 44 feet wide. It includes 12-foot driving lanes and 10-foot shoulders, providing the dimensions MoDOT identified for the rebuilt crossing.

The interchange is a major Jonesburg-area connection across I-70. Its reopening restores the Route E/Route Y crossing while improving the local connection for people traveling through the area, commercial traffic using the interstate and emergency access between roads on either side of I-70.

MoDOT’s project information describes the traffic opening as occurring ahead of the originally expected schedule for the majority of improvements. The agency’s project page still lists overall completion for fall 2026, so the July 17 opening marks the return of traffic rather than a statement that every project element is finished.

Ribbon-cutting planned for July 30

MoDOT scheduled a public ribbon-cutting in Jonesburg for July 30, 2026. The event is planned near the interchange at a Jonesburg church.

The opening gives drivers a usable crossing before that public event, while the fall completion target remains the project’s listed milestone. MoDOT has not provided a traffic-delay total or a dollar estimate for the local economic effect of the reopening in the project information.

Separate wastewater permit proceeding

A separate infrastructure and environmental matter is also moving through a state process in the Jonesburg area. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources opened a public-comment period through Aug. 10, 2026, for a proposed wastewater operating permit for the Jonesburg Gardens Campground treatment facility.

That permit proceeding is distinct from the Route E/Route Y interchange project. It gives residents another current local opportunity to review and comment on a proposed state-regulated infrastructure operation while work on the I-70 crossing continues toward its fall completion listing.
