Hialeah firefighters set to vote on two-year pay offer
Hialeah firefighters represented by IAFF Local 1102 are scheduled to vote Oct. 11, 12 and 13, 2026, on the city’s contract offer. The Miami Herald reported that each of the Fire Department’s three shifts will have a separate voting day and that the offer needs support from 51% of firefighters who cast ballots to pass.
The vote is on a proposal, not a finalized contract. The reported city offer covers two years, while the union sought a three-year agreement. If members accept the offer and an agreement is finalized, its reported pay terms would apply to covered firefighters, including paramedics.
Reported pay terms differ
The Herald reported that the city’s proposal calls for an 8% raise in the first year, an additional 2% for paramedics in that year, and a further 7% raise in the second year. The union’s reported proposal sought raises of 10%, 8% and 7% over three years, plus an additional 5% for paramedics.
Those figures are reported offer and union-proposal terms, not terms confirmed in the city’s published 2025–26 agreement. The city agreement covers the prior contract period. The reported percentages also do not establish a cumulative increase or precisely explain how the paramedic additions and second-year raise would apply.
The two proposals differ in both duration and the annual raises they describe: the city’s reported offer is one year shorter, while the union’s reported schedule includes a larger first-year raise. The city’s cost for the offer has not been established.
Negotiations began in July
Negotiations began in July, the Herald reported. At a Sept. 30 bargaining session, the city called its proposal its “best and final offer,” according to the newspaper. The Herald also reported that union leaders put the offer to a vote despite not being satisfied with it.
The city’s 2025–26 agreement identifies Hialeah and IAFF Local 1102 as parties and says a city agreement is subject to ratification by City Council resolution. That provision is in the prior agreement; it does not establish what approval steps apply to the pending offer. The immediate decision scheduled for Oct. 11–13 is whether union members accept the city’s proposal.
