Two hospitalized after shooting outside Mesa Halloween event

Two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries after a shooting outside Versalles Reception Hall in Mesa. The incident happened about 1:05 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2026.

Police said a juvenile who was denied entry to a private Halloween event pointed a firearm at a security guard and fired, then ran toward a vehicle while shooting. The guard and an off-duty Mesa police officer working at the event returned fire. The juvenile and an adult man inside the vehicle were struck by gunfire. Police said the guard, the off-duty officer and bystanders were not reported injured.

Police said the juvenile continued across Main Street, put down the firearm when confronted by an on-duty Mesa officer and was taken into custody. Scottsdale police are leading the officer-involved shooting investigation through the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team; Mesa police are investigating the alleged aggravated assault on the guard.
