Woman, 84, dies after car falls from Honolulu parking garage
An 84-year-old woman died after her car broke through a retaining wall on the fifth floor of a downtown Honolulu parking garage and fell about five stories, Honolulu police said.
The collision happened at about 2:28 p.m. on October 9, 2026, in a private parking structure at 1088 Bishop Street. Police said the woman was driving north on the fifth floor when the vehicle breached the wall and landed on its roof on the South Hotel Street sidewalk. She was wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said it was unknown whether speed, drugs or alcohol contributed. The investigation was ongoing.
Police classified the death as Oahuโs fourth non-traffic fatality of 2026, compared with none at the same point in 2025. Hawaii News Now reported emergency crews arrived shortly before 3 p.m. and Hotel Street was temporarily closed between Bishop and Bethel streets during the investigation.
