Kailua Hawaiian homelands housing project taken off the table
A proposed Hawaiian homelands housing project at Kalaheo Hillside in Kailua is no longer under consideration, according to an announcement from the Honolulu City Council on July 21, 2026.
The council described the proposal as โoff the table,โ removing the development from the current housing and land-use discussion involving the Kailua site. The project was proposed as Hawaiian homelands housing, making its withdrawal relevant to both Kailuaโs future development and Native Hawaiian housing needs on Oahu.
The proposed project was located at Kalaheo Hillside in Kailua, an area within the City and County of Honolulu. The councilโs official announcement identified the proposal and reported that it had been taken off the table.
In a July 17, 2026 post about District 4 budget priorities, the Honolulu City Council described city budget support for affordable-housing development projects and outlined current council context on affordable-housing funding and development priorities.
